Sunday 8th April in Heacham Public Hall
What a fantastic day we had, after a lot of organising it was really great to see the event be so successful. Everyone turned up in good time for a practice and play started as scheduled at 10am. The proven format once again went to plan with 4 tables in use with 6 players on each. 15 games were played for time duration of 8 minutes with just a 2 minute break between games and so exhausted players were ready for some great food at 12.30pm. Group winners were Aaron Howell, Neil Howell, Vaughan Parker and on table four it was close as Graham Keeley and Mary-Ann Woodhouse were level on points after their five games but Graham went through, edging home against Mary-Ann in their encounter. After the group singles one table was taken away ready for the singles semi finals and final and the afternoon doubles. On Table One Graham edged home over Neil while on Table Two Aaron beat Vaughan. In the final Aaron showed no mercy in beating Graham. The doubles were played on three tables in groups of four it was the winners of each group that formed the round robin final. Rob Yarrow and Mike Nobes, Aaron Howell and Tim Race and Jim Race and Tom Yarrow were group winners. After the three games Jim and Tom were on the same points as Aaron and Tim so it was a five minute play off and it was just won by Aaron and Tim by one point as the whistle went. Presentations followed and we were all finished and cleared away by 4pm thanks to everyone chipping in to clear up. So 24 players of varying standards and ages starting at 11 years old to 78 years young (thanks Tony for standing in at the last minute for late withdrawal). What a great day raising £562 for such a good cause.
Well that finishes off another great season until next month when Heacham Table Tennis Club are intending to do coaching sessions the first sessions to be arranged will be on Mondays 21st May, 4th, 18th & 25th June from 7pm until 8.30pm. We will be keeping the number attending to between 8 and 12 players so more individual coaching can be performed. The coach will be TTE coach Steve Goodale as last Summer. Cost £3 per session. Please get in touch as it will be the first applicants that will be accepted. (email: firstname.lastname@example.org or mobile 07450527168).
On Wednesday 18th April there will be a team captains meeting to discuss what will be happening next season. So will all players give their views to what they liked or did not like this season. Three formats, Normal, Challenge and Special and the Monday night 2 Player League. In other words do we need to alter anything. Finally will all teams have enough players to field a side every week, let your team captain know what you intend to do next season!
Finally Heacham Table Tennis Club would like to thank Heacham Youth and Community Trust for purchasing for us a Table Tennis Robot, Catching Net and 120 table tennis balls, these will be a great asset during the Summer.
