After the first session it was a break for tea/coffee and warm mini sausage rolls, mince pies and shortbread Christmas trees and then it was back to the second session to decide who was going to progress to the final.
Spectators enjoying all the fun.

What a brilliant night to finish off the first half of the season. It was great so see so many players turn up really early to help set up and as a result we were already set up by 6.20pm and so giving a chance to try and get used to the the hard bats. At 6.45pm it was group photo and after another ten minutes practice time it was a prompt start at 7pm. It did not take long for everyone to get to grips with a different type of bat than they were used to. During the first half there was no real clear favourite to win the groups but at the interval on table one it was Tom and Jeff just in the lead followed by Graham and Kim. On table two it was Rob and Eileen in the lead with Mike N and John in second place. After the break for refreshments it was back to business and at 9pm all matches were completed and points added up and the winners were announced. The chairs were moved into position ready to watch the final between Rob of Hunnys Heroes and his partner Eileen Super Sub and Super Cook (after cooking over 100 mini sausage rolls, 100 mini mince pies and 100 shortbread Christmas trees). Their opponents from table one were Tom of Hunnys Heroes and Jeff from Vips. What a great final, again played over 8 minutes. The first end went to Rob and Eileen 11-8, second end to Tom and Jeff 11-8 and after 5 minutes the third end was 6 all. All so close but there had to be a winner and Tom and Jeff just edged home when the whistle went.

Finally a big thank you to all those who helped to make this such a great night. Eileen for cooking all the food (there were goody bags for all players to take home at the end). My wife Pat and Jenny for sorting out all the food and drinks. Stella for being my assistant time keeper and making sure I was back at the table to blow the whistle. Many thanks to Ivan, Ray, Bob and Benji for coming along to support and for being ready to play if at the last minute any player could not make it. Finally to everyone who played and made the night something special plus everyone who pitched in to clear away so we were all done and dusted by 9.30pm a great big thank you. Already people have asked 'when is the next one'.

WISHING EVERYONE A MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR.
