OLDSTARS JUST EDGE HOME OVER HEROES

ADRIAN'S OLDSTARS (5) Mike, Eileen, Mick vs  HUNNYS HEROES (4) Alfie, Graham, Rob

Monday evening in Heacham Public Hall it was Adrian's Oldstars up against Hunnys Heroes, except for completely messing up the challenge scorecard after game one, it was a great night of table tennis. Thankfully the card was soon sorted and the match continued. The first game was the doubles and a close five ender with Mick Minns and Super Sub Eileen Needham just edging home 11-9 in the fifth end. Mike Nobes then lost to Graham Keeley to make it 1 all. Eileen then beat young Alfie Yarrow. That was followed by, possibly the game of the night, another five ender when Mick took on Graham with Mick just edging home in five close ends 11-4, 9-11, 13-15, 12-10 & 13-11. The Oldstars then went further ahead when Mike and Eileen beat Graham and Alfie. So at 4-1 it looked as if the home team were in control but then Mick lost to Rob in four ends. Through the scorecard being adjusted for the earlier mess-up, Rob was back on, this time beating Eileen. So now 4-3 but the Oldstars sealed a win when Mike beat Alfie but the gap was closed with a final five end doubles when Graham and Rob beat Mick and Mike 9-11. 8-11, 11-8, 11-8 & 6-11.

Tuesday evening in Ringstead Village Hall it was the Ringstead Raiders trio of Mike Patterson, Paul Humeniuk and Stephen Stafford up against visiting Vips who had Tim Race and Chris Griggs joined by Kim Mann. The new team of  the Vips found it tough going as the Raiders were in top form and came away winners 9-0

SEDGEFORD STARS (3)

VS

SEDGEFORD SAVAGES (6)

Mike

Paul

Dan

Ian

John

Kerry

On Thursday evening in Sedgeford Village Hall it was the local derby when the Sedgeford Stars took on the Sedgeford Savages. Always a close call and this was no exception when the home team of Mike and Dan Witley and Paul Richardson just lost out to the Savages Ian Rix, Kerry Smith and John Marrow. The Savages went into a 2-0 lead after winning the first doubles and first singles before Paul put the Stars on the scorecard with a hard fought five end win over John. Ian then added another win for the Savages beating Mike. This was followed by another doubles win for the Savages putting them 4-1 up. The last four games were shared and so a result of 6-3 for the Savages and it was Ian who came away unbeaten in both his singles and doubles.

SPIVS (0)

VS

BT VICTORY (9)

Stephen

Aaron

Chris

David

Mick

Steve

Also on Thursday evening but in the top room at Heacham it was Spivs up against BT Victory and for any team playing Victory it is going to be tough going. The home side of Stephen Jackson son Aaron and Chris Griggs had an enjoyable evening but found the visiting trio just too hot to handle as David Howell, Mick Ruffles and Steve Hales gave Victory their second big win in a row not dropping a game. However Stephen did push David all the way and only just lost out in five close ends 11-7, 13-11, 7-11, 10-12 & 7-11. Scorecard Comment: Spivs acquitted themselves well but as expected BT Victory were just too strong.
IMPORTANT: WILL ALL TEAM CAPTAINS NOTE IN THE CHALLENGE FORMAT THAT PLAYERS ARE TO BE PLACED IN RANKING ORDER ESPECIALLY WHEN THERE IS A BIG DIFFERENCE IN PLAYING STANDARDS IN A TEAM. BEST PLAYER MUST BE NUMBER ONE ETC.

To play in the Heacham League all you need to do is be TTE registered. If any player is looking for a game please get in touch. Once again we are looking for 'Super Subs'. So what is a Super Sub? They are players who play in other TTE affiliated leagues but would like an extra match or two or more during the season. There is no cost to be a Super Sub as long as you are TTE registered. There is no commitment on your part, if a team is short of a player they will have a list of Super Subs and contact details. They will contact you asking if you can help out and it is your choice to say if you are available or not.
