GREAT TO SEE THE THREE YOUNGEST PLAYERS IN THE LEAGUE ALL PLAYING THIS WEEK ALFIE (11), GEORGE (11) AND AARON (15)

BT Victory vs Vips (top) and Adrian's Oldstars vs Sedgeford Stars (bottom)

The Heacham League just gets better and better and Monday night in Heacham Public Hall was a great example. Two matches were on the go and on table one it was Adrian's Oldstars entertaining Sedgeford Stars. For the Oldstars Mick Minns and Mike Nobes who were joined by Super Sub Eileen Needham, standing in for the Captain while he is slowly getting back to full fitness. For the Stars in was Paul Richardson and Dan Witley joined by Super Sub Bob Richardson, standing in for Mike Witley. A really close match when there was never more than one game in it and the final result  a 5-4 win for the visiting Stars. However the Man of the Match came from the Oldstars when Mick came away with a maximum. Eileen has improved leaps and bounds and was unlucky not to get on the scorecard with a win as she lost in five ends to Bob 8-11, 13-11, 8-1, 12-10 & 6-11 and to Dan 11-6, 7-11, 6-11, 11-9 & 6-11. Mike had a win over Dan and Mike and Mick had a doubles win over Paul and Bob. The Stars edged their victory by winning two out of the three doubles.

On table two it was league leaders BT Victory up against Vips. Victory had their captain out of action due to an accident (more on that later) so in stepped the youngest player in the league (by just a couple of weeks) George Woodhouse playing in his very first league match. It was Mum Mary-Ann and David Howell who were his team mates. This was yet another really close match and again the final score was a 5-4 win to the visiting team Vips. Man of the Match was Jim Race who went unbeaten, which included a great win over Mary-Ann. Jim had two new boys on the block with him in Kim Mann and Dave Curtis. So lots of different stats in this match with the youngest player in the league at eleven playing his first match and he had a doubles win alongside David. Vips Dave not only won his first end of the season but his first game with a very close win over George 9-11, 7-11 & 12-14. Plus this was Vips first win of the season. Match Comments: Super friendly night. Debut for young George Woodhouse 11 years old. First win for Dave Curtis.

Photo shows the bruising on the hand of the BT Victory's Captain Steve Hales. Looks very nasty but pleased to report nothing broken and Steve hopes to be back in action next week. Looks very nasty and you ask 'How could it happen'......Doing some DIY oh no falling out of bed!

Ringstead Raiders (3)   Hunnys Heroes (6)

Roger

Richard

Alfie

Rob

Eileen

Tuesday evening in Ringstead Village Hall it was the Ringstead Raiders taking on Hunnys Heroes. The Heroes had to call on Super Sub Eileen Needham to play alongside Rob and Alfie Yarrow. The Raiders had last minute problems with Justin Mullins having car trouble (alternator) and as he lives in Wisbech could not make it so it was left to Roger Pincott and Richard Hendricks. Obviously the Raiders lost out on 2 singles and 2 doubles points. The Heroes put young 11 year old Alfie at number one so he got his two singles games in. The highlight of this match involved Alfie against Richard and to show how he is improving week by week he only just went down in five ends 10-12, 11-7, 11-9, 9-11 & 11-6.  Final score a 6-3 win to the Heroes. They played out all the doubles but unfortunately only one could count but a great evening was had by all.

SPIVS (1)

VS

SEDGEFORD SAVAGES (8)

Stephen

Chris

Aaron

Ian

Kerry

John

Thursday evening in the top room at Heacham and Spivs trio of Stephen and Aaron Jackson and Chris Griggs found the visiting Sedgeford Savages just a little bit too strong for them and went down 8-1. The Savages had their number one Ian Rix back in action and he was alongside Kerry Smith and John Marrow. Spivs point came in an epic five ender with Stephen against Kerry winning 6-11, 12-10, 7-11, 11-9 & 11-4. Spivs also pushed the Savages to four ends in three games. The Heacham league prides itself in encouraging youngsters (and not so young) into the league and this week Aaron 15 years old showed his improvement as did the two eleven years olds Alfie and George in the other matches...keep it up lads! Match Comments: Great night, well played Sedgeford some great rallies in all games.

To play in the Heacham League all you need to do is be TTE registered. If any player is looking for a game please get in touch. Once again we are looking for 'Super Subs'. So what is a Super Sub? They are players who play in other TTE affiliated leagues but would like an extra match or two or more during the season. There is no cost to be a Super Sub as long as you are TTE registered. There is no commitment on your part, if a team is short of a player they will have a list of Super Subs and contact details. They will contact you asking if you can help out and it is your choice to say if you are available or not.
