ADRIAN'S OLDSTARS GO TOP OF THE LEAGUE AS HUNNYS HEROES BEAT LEAGUE LEADERS BT VICTORY.

Steve, David, Mary-Ann (BT Victory) ...vs... Graham, Tom, Rob (Hunnys Heroes)

The best match I have ever watched in the Heacham League happened on Monday night in Heacham Public Hall. Top of the league BT Victory were up against the last two seasons champions Hunnys Heroes. With young Alfie Yarrow away on a school trip the Heroes brought in last years team member older brother Tom, to play along side Dad Rob  and Graham Keeley. So it was the same team that were champions for the two previous years. BT had their usual three Steve Hales, Mary-Ann Woodhouse and David Howell. All six singles and three doubles were full of long rallies sometimes up to twenty shots. There was no holding back as one player would be attacking while their opponent was forced back to defend, then it would be reversed. No player held back and gave their all. To prove a point, with the match which was going on on table one, the scorers on several occasions made  mistakes as they could not take their eyes off what was going on on table two. Five enders and four enders were in abundance, close games all the way.

Heroes went two nil up with the first doubles win by Rob and Tom over Mary-Ann and David, this was followed by a win by Graham over David. Captain Steve came to the table against Tom, he won the first two ends, Tom came back fighting to take the next two and in the fifth end a classic end with Steve edging home 12-10. More classic games followed but all the next five games went to the Heroes with Rob and Graham going unbeaten inflicting, a first time ever, no singles win for Mary-Ann in the Heacham league but she fought all the way especially in her game with Graham only going down 8-11 in the fifth end. So the score was 7-1 to the Heroes with just the last doubles to play. Mary-Ann and Steve versus Rob and Graham and another classic five ender with Victory coming out winners 11-7, 9-11, 9-11, 11-6 & 11-8. This 7-2 win for Heroes makes it all very close at the top of the league. What a Match!

Mick, Charley, Mike (Adrian's Oldstars) ...vs... Jeff, Kim, Jim (Vips)

On table one on the same evening it was Adrian's Oldstars against Vips. The Oldstars had Mick Minns and Mike Nobes joined by super sub Charley Hammond replacing captain Adrian Evans who is slowly getting back to fighting fitness. Vips had Jim and Jeff Race and Kim Mann. It was always going to be tough for the Vips and they finished up losing 7-2. Jim had an excellent win over Mick and in the final doubles he teamed up with Jeff to win a five ender over Charley and Mick 11-5, 7-11, 11-4, 5-11 & 9-11. Charley and Mick both went unbeaten for the home side. The seven points now mean they are one point ahead of BT Victory to go top of the league. Victory are still firm favourites as they have a strong squad while the Oldstars have to rely on which super sub is available until Adrian is back in action.

Mike

Mark

Kerry

Tuesday evening in Ringstead Village Hall and it was the Raiders team of Mike Patterson, Mark Hipkin and Richard Hendricks taking on Sedgeford Savages. The Savages had to bring in two super subs so it was Eileen Needham and Bob Richardson joining Kerry Smith. This was a close match all the way, Mike was the star for the Raiders winning both his singles, Kerry the star for the Savages winning both her singles. After 8 games it was all square with just the doubles to play. Mike and Mark up against Eileen and Bob and it was a tense five ender to decide who won and it was Eileen and Bob edging home 11-5, 9-11, 13-11, 6-11 & 3-11 to clinch the match.

SPIVS (0)

SEDGEFORD STARS (9)

Stephen

Chris

Aaron

Mike

Paul

Bob

Thursday evening in the top room at Heacham and it was Spivs trio of father and son Stephen and Aaron Jackson and Chris Griggs up against the strong team of Sedgeford Stars in the shape of Mike Witley, Paul Richardson and for his second outing of the week super sub Bob Richardson. Spivs found it tough going and were unable to put a point on the scorecard as they went down 9-0. Highlight was the continued improvement of young Aaron who had a real tussle with Bob finally going down 9-11, 17-19 & 9-11. Match Comments: Sedgeford Stars just too strong, game of the night young Aaron against Bob.

To play in the Heacham League all you need to do is be TTE registered. If any player is looking for a game please get in touch. Once again we are looking for 'Super Subs'. So what is a Super Sub? They are players who play in other TTE affiliated leagues but would like an extra match or two or more during the season. There is no cost to be a Super Sub as long as you are TTE registered. There is no commitment on your part, if a team is short of a player they will have a list of Super Subs and contact details. They will contact you asking if you can help out and it is your choice to say if you are available or not.
