Another action packed fun filled evening in Heacham Public Hall on Monday 13th November. It was the second chance BT Victory had to stop Hunnys Heroes from running away with the league title for the second year in a row. The same teams were on board as when they met a few weeks back playing the 'Special' format, this time it was the 'Challenge' format so 3 doubles and six singles games. First up a four end doubles win for the Heroes pairing of Graham Keeley and Tom Yarrow against Victory's Mary-Ann Woodhouse and David Howell. Then it was the first of three five enders when David Howell beat the Heroes captain Rob Yarrow so it was game on at one all. But no, the Heroes had other ideas as the ever improving Tom beat Steve in five ends. Then it was the unbeaten Mary-Ann up against Graham, first time round Graham won the first two ends to then lose in five. So when he again took the first two ends was it all to be repeated, no, he clinched the game three straight. The Heroes were on a roll, they took the middle doubles game to make the score 4-1. Then another epic five ender followed when Rob edged home against Mary-Ann 11-6, 4-11, 8-11, 11-4 & 11-13. Graham completed his maximum with a win over Steve and then Tom did the same with a three end win over David. So it was 7-1 with just the final doubles to play and it was the Victory pairing who got their second point of the match when Mary-Ann and Steve beat Graham and Rob. What a match!

On table two it was Adrian's Allstars taking on Sedgeford Stars. The Home side brought in Super Sup Mike Cooper, to replace the injured Mick Minns, his team mates being Adrian Evans and Mike Nobes. For the visitors Mike and Dan Witley and Paul Richardson. The Allstars got off to a flying start winning the first doubles then the first three singles. Then in game five it was a five end win for Paul and Dan against Adrian and Mike (N)11-5, 7-11, 9-11, 11-5 & 9-11. Mike then beat Paul for his maximum. Back came the visitors when Mike (W) beat Adrian. Mike (N) then got his maximum when he beat Dan. Back came the Stars in the final doubles when Mike (W) and Paul beat Mike (C) and Adrian for a final score of 6-3 to the Allstars.

Moving on to table three and it was the fifth friendly match of the season and the standard and enjoyment continued. The home side was Spivs Specials who had Stephen and Aaron Jackson alongside Jeff Race while for the Friendly Super Subs Jim Race, Eileen Needham and Alfie Yarrow. As always the score is incidental in these friendly matches when we try to match each side with players of the same standard, obviously we got it spot on again as this time it was a 5-4 win for the Specials. Four and five enders and long rallies and everyone improving and young Alfie and Aaron both taking on the roll of scoring and making an excellent job of it. Comment on the bottom of the scorecard just about sums it up.... 'Good friendly evening - what this Heacham League is all about'

Wednesday evening and in Ringstead Village Hall it was the Ringstead Raiders up against visiting Sedgeford Savages. It was the determined trio of Captain Ian Rix alongside Kerry Smith and John Marrow who moved back up into third spot in the league after their 9-0 win over the Raiders team of Paul Humeniuk, Richard Hendricks and Steven Stafford.

To play in the Heacham League all you need to do is be TTE registered. If any player is looking for a game please get in touch. Once again we are looking for 'Super Subs'. So what is a Super Sub? They are players who play in other TTE affiliated leagues but would like an extra match or two or more during the season. There is no cost to be a Super Sub as long as you are TTE registered. There is no commitment on your part, if a team is short of a player they will have a list of Super Subs and contact details. They will contact you asking if you can help out and it is your choice to say if you are available or not.
