BT VICTORY WIDEN THE GAP AT TOP OF THE LEAGUE

Christmas all over and we move into a new year as the league got under way for the second half. It was not quite business as usual on Monday 7th January 2019 in Heacham Public Hall as the four teams had a bit of a shock and thought they had turned up to play on a building site. Earlier in the day it was the start of putting in 10 new windows and so things were in just a bit of a mess. Thankfully there were just two matches to be played so enough space was made after moving stuff around. So a slightly late start and although an ok temperature for players when not playing it could have been warmer, we have been reassured the windows will all be in before our next matches, so back to normal next Monday. On table two it was BT Victory in great form when they beat Adrian's Oldstars 7-2 in the Challenge format. They won all three doubles games and in the singles it was a win each for Steve Hales and Mary-Ann Woodhouse and it was Ian Reynolds who came away with two hard fought wins. For the Oldstars who were without their captain Adrian Evans and Mick Minns so Mike Nobes was joined by super subs Mike Cooper and Charley Hammond and it was Charley who was their sole scorer having two great wins over Steve and Mary-Ann. This now puts them 10 points clear at the top of the table.

On table one it was Hunnys Heroes taking on Sedgeford Stars, once again it was super subs to the rescue when the Heroes regulars Graham Keeley and young Alfie Yarrow were joined by Alfie's older brother Tom. The Stars had Mike Witley and Paul Richardson joined by super sub Benji Richardson. A close match from start to finish and it was 4-4  with the final doubles to play and it was Tom and Graham edging home over Paul and Benji to give the Heroes a 5-4 win. Tom and Graham both went unbeaten for their other 4 points.

Paul and Steven won both their singles games plus the team won two of the three doubles for their 6 points. For Spivs it was a win for Stephen over Richard and also Aaron did well to beat Richard. Stephen and Aaron also teamed up to win their doubles. Another enjoyable evening was had by all.

To play in the Heacham League all you need to do is be TTE registered. If any player is looking for a game please get in touch. Once again we are looking for 'Super Subs'. So what is a Super Sub? They are players who play in other TTE affiliated leagues but would like an extra match or two or more during the season. There is no cost to be a Super Sub as long as you are TTE registered. There is no commitment on your part, if a team is short of a player they will have a list of Super Subs and contact details. They will contact you asking if you can help out and it is your choice to say if you are available or not.
