Hardbat Doubles Final.
A very keenly contested
final, just as they had been
in the group stages. Graham
& Ollie settled the quicker
in front of the crowd taking
the first end in double
quick time. As Benji & Chris
found their range they
fully deserved to take the
second end.
Though the 3rd & 4th ends
were as tight as the 2nd,
but with the attacking
commitment from Ollie to his
shots, supported with some
excellent retrievals from
Graham, saw them run out as
champions. A great start to
the evening.
Handicap Final.
With the younger generation
on show for this final,
Benji and Alfie were always
going to highlight their
supreme attacking play. Both
had played excellently in
the group stages to
overcome some high handicaps
to make their way to the
final.
Testament to the players
that 60 points out of a
possible 61 were fought out.
The match ebbed & flowed
between both players but it
was Alfie who edged home
with some fantastic final
shots. Well played.
Plate Final.
This was always going to be
a great spectacle as Kevin &
Rob are such great
technicians of the game,
able to adjust to their
opponents style of play when
needed. On any other day
this could have easily been
the Open final. Following a
tight 1st end, edged by
Kevin, Rob romped away with
the 2nd in style.
This was going to be a hard
one to call. As the rallies
produced some excellent
quality from both players it
was Kevin who was able to
hold his nerve to see the
match out in 4 ends. Great
final.
Open Final.
I think everyone was looking
forward to this final to see
if the speed & pace of Alfie
could see him get by the
precision & guille of Leigh.
The crowd were not
disappointed. The first 2
ends produced the first
deuce scores of the night
highlighting how close the
match was. Both times it was
Alfie who managed to get
over the line.
There were some amazing
shots & rallies of the
highest quality, played in
the best of spirits, but
with the fist two ends under
his belt Alfie gave an
excellent display towards
the end of the 3rd to clinch
the contest & become the
Open Champion.
Well played from both
finalists as they treated us
to some fantastic table
tennis

An excellent finals and
presentation evening
with buffet to finish off
another great season at the
Heacham Table Tennis Club.
Doors opened at 6.30pm on Monday
15th April with the first of
four finals starting at 6.45pm.
There were two special awards
the Malcolm Diggins trophy which
was won by very popular Eileen
Needham.
The new award was in memory of
David Bourne who sadly passed
away last year. This was won by
another popular player Bob
Richardson.
The whole evening was recorded
and there will be a dvd
produced, another first for the
club. There was a large crowd
watching the finals and they
were treated to a wonderful
night of table tennis and to top
it off, a fantastic buffet.
The facilities for Heacham Table
Tennis Club are excellent, the
club is extremely focused on
being friendly but competitive.
However all successful clubs can
only be successful if there are
people willing to go above and
beyond. We are very fortunate
that we have two people who have
taken the club from strength to
strength and I know everyone in
the club would like to go along
with me to say a big thank you
to Jim Race and Stephen Jackson.
Without them (and their band of
helpers on match nights and of
course the ladies who provided
the buffet) none of this would
be possible. Thank you Jim and
Stephen.
For those who did not see this
message from Jim on WhatsApp
Good evening all . Firstly a very, very big thank you from Stephen and myself for all your generosity with the collection on our behalf.
As you know we do not expect anything for what we do but your sign of appreciation blew us away.
We will send photos of the meal we are planning in the near future.
We are so happy with how tonight went and this will definitely be the format for the finals in future.
My apologies for there being a lack of heat in the hall, every week so far it has been like a sauna.
Can only think the wind blew out the pilot light? The standard of the table tennis was red hot at least.
Reminder we start knock night from 22nd, starting at 6pm until around 8.30pm.
Cost will need to be £3 each though to meet hall cost . Once again many thanks. Jim on behalf of Stephen as well.
